Before you can read what a number means, you have to know how to find it. Numerology works from a small set of "core numbers" — calculated from your birth date and your birth name — that together form a working map of who you are. Each core number answers a different question: what is my path, what am I capable of, what do I secretly want, how do people see me, and what specific gift was I born carrying. 1. The Life Path Number
This is the number most numerologists consider the anchor of the whole reading. It is built entirely from your date of birth — day, month, and year, added together and reduced — and it describes the broad terrain you are walking through this lifetime: your natural temperament, the kind of lessons that keep recurring, and the general direction your life tends to bend toward even when you are not actively steering it. Because it comes from your birth date rather than your name, the Life Path Number is calculated the same way in every numerology tradition, Chaldean included — there is no letter system involved here, only arithmetic.
2. The Destiny Number (Expression Number)
Where the Life Path shows the road, the Destiny Number shows what you are equipped to do on it — your natural talents, your working style, the abilities that come easily to you even when you have not consciously trained them. When reducing any of these numbers, if your running total lands exactly on 11, 22, or 33, tradition says stop — do not reduce further. These three are Master Numbers, carrying a more concentrated, higher-voltage version of their reduced counterparts (11 relates to 2, 22 to 4, 33 to 6) along with a correspondingly greater challenge to live up to.
