✦ Graha 1 of 9 ✦
Sun (Surya)
Mild malefic (soumya in some readings, generally krura)
Surya is the soul of the chart and the king of the nine grahas, the light every other planet is measured against. Where the Sun sits shows where a person's sense of self and purpose gathers.
Personality & Traits
A well-placed Sun gives confidence, natural authority and a clear sense of identity. People with a strong Sun usually know who they are and say so without apology. They are drawn to leadership, to visibility and to positions of responsibility.
When Strong
A strong Sun gives self-assurance, vitality and the respect of authority. In the tradition it supports career recognition, a clear sense of purpose and steadiness under pressure.
When It Needs Support
A weak or afflicted Sun is read as low self-confidence, friction with authority, including the father, and a sensitivity around vitality. The classical response is work on self-worth that does not depend on outside approval, and the tradition says that work is rewarded.
